From what I can tell, the newer model's gun has an improved control for adjusting the fan width but I have no complaints with the gun that came with my kit. Overall, it's very well built and I have every expectation that it will perform well for years.I originally purchased my sprayer to refinish my boat and also purchased additional accessories, including the 6' whip, extra cups and a #6 nozzle (to spray gelcoat, which is very viscous even when thinned to the max). I purchased this type of sprayer as I needed to keep overspray to a minimum and the unit performed flawlessly. Since then I've used it for an extensive remodelling project in my 80 yr old home, where I also needed to minimize overspray. I've used it for a month now 2-3 times a week and love it.There's so much talk about how loud it is compared to the Q4, I can tell you that unless your spraying in a library or church the noise level is not an issue. After much research and reading reviews, I determined that this Fuji sprayer was the best one overall and the price was reasonable in comparison with others of the same caliber. I sprayed my kitchen cabinets with latex paint thinned to 25 seconds which is what the Fuji manual recommended. It sprayed flawlessly with the number 4 nozzle and needle that is supplied with the unit. After painting I then sprayed the cabinets with polyurethane using the number 3 nozzle and needle purchased separately.Again the unit functioned flawlessly. Do not waste the extra money on the quieter model because this one is not bad at all on the noise. It is probably a little quieter than my shop vac. The only slight negative is that the fan pattern adjustment knob is on top of the gun where the hanging hook is located.
